Material Requirements for Aggressive Chemical Service
Hastelloy C-276 Machining
is the standard for broad corrosion resistance across multiple acid and oxidizing chemical environments. Originally developed specifically for chemical processing, Hastelloy C-276 handles sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, and mixed-acid environments that corrode conventional stainless steels. Its higher nickel content and molybdenum addition provide protection that 316 stainless steel simply cannot match. We have 40 years of combined team experience machining this material in chemical processing applications—understanding how it behaves during cutting, maintaining tight tolerances through its work-hardening tendency, and achieving superior surface finishes that contribute to corrosion resistance.
Hastelloy C-22
offers superior corrosion resistance in more aggressive oxidizing environments. Where C-276 handles reducing acids and mixed environments, Hastelloy C-22 excels in oxidizing acids like nitric acid and ferric chloride. For equipment handling particularly aggressive chemicals at elevated temperatures, C-22 is the material choice. We machine both grades with equal expertise and can guide your material selection based on your specific chemical media.
Inconel 625 for High-Temperature Applications
bridges the gap between chemical and thermal resistance. For heat-traced reactors or processes involving elevated temperatures combined with corrosive media, Inconel 625 provides superior performance—though applications demanding higher tensile strength at temperature may call for Inconel 718 instead. Its thermal stability combined with excellent corrosion resistance makes it ideal for specialized chemical processing applications.
Each material presents machining challenges that generic job shops struggle with. Work hardening, thermal expansion during cutting, and tool wear—these are the obstacles we’ve solved across four decades of exotic metals experience.
Monel for Aggressive Chemical Service
For processes involving aggressive chemicals where standard alloys corrode, Monel offers an alternative worth evaluating — particularly in applications where its nickel-copper composition outperforms stainless steel. We machine Monel components to the same tight tolerances and surface finish standards as our Hastelloy and Inconel work.
