Common Components
We Manufacture for Food Extrusion
Extruder Screws & Barrels
Custom extrusion screws are twin-screw and single-screw elements engineered for consistent material flow, product texture, and mixing. Custom screw designs optimize cooking, extrusion, or pelletizing performance based on your specific food product and equipment design. We machine screws that deliver consistent particle size, moisture control, and product consistency.
Extrusion Dies
Custom dies control product shape, size, and texture as material exits the barrel. From ribbon dies and film dies to pelletizer dies with multiple orifices, we design and machine dies that produce uniform products and minimize production waste. Complex flow paths require precision machining to eliminate dead spots where product can degrade or build up.
Barrel Liners & Wear Components
Breaker Plates & Pelletizer Components
Mixer Bowls & Impeller Elements
Material preparation and compounding often require mixing before extrusion. We manufacture custom mixer impellers and mixer components to ensure uniform ingredient distribution and consistent product quality across batches.
Why Food Extrusion Equipment Requires Specialty Materials
Corrosion Resistance
Food products and processing water create corrosive environments that attack standard stainless steel. Ingredients like salt, organic acids, and cleaning chemicals found in food facilities demand superior corrosion resistance. Hastelloy C-276 machining provides the protection that food equipment requires for extended service life without pitting, stress corrosion cracking, or product contamination. For processes involving aggressive oxidizing sanitizers or acidified products, Hastelloy C-22 offers even greater resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
FDA Compliance & Food-Contact Safety
Food-contact equipment must meet FDA standards and NSF certifications. 316L stainless steel machining is the standard for food-contact surfaces because of its low carbon content and superior corrosion resistance. All our food equipment components are manufactured from food-grade materials with documentation supporting your regulatory compliance.
Hygienic Finish Quality
Heat & Thermal Stability
Food extrusion operates at temperatures ranging from 250°F for some grain products to 400°F+ for certain plasticized starches. Materials must retain strength and dimensional stability across this temperature range without annealing or thermal creep. We select materials and machining approaches that preserve this stability.
For specialty food applications requiring thermal stability beyond what stainless steel can provide, Inconel 625 is an option worth discussing with your engineering team.

Complex Profile & Geometry Knowledge
Precise Dimensional Control
Food extrusion screw flights, die orifices, and barrel components require consistent dimensions across production runs. Tolerance stack-up in a 12-inch die with 100+ orifices directly impacts product uniformity. We maintain ±0.0005″ standard tolerances with ±0.0001″ achievable through wire EDM where required.
Superior Surface Finish Quality
Our expertise in achieving mirror finishes on 316L stainless steel directly supports food safety requirements. We use precision grinding and 5-axis CNC milling techniques to achieve Ra 0.8 or better on all food-contact surfaces, preventing the microscopic imperfections that trap bacteria and product residue.
Material Selection for Food Applications
We partner with your engineering team to select the best material for your application. 316L is our standard for most food-contact components, but applications involving acidic ingredients, salt curing, or aggressive cleaning chemicals may benefit from superior corrosion resistance. For structural components requiring higher strength in corrosive, high-temperature environments, Inconel 718 is another option GQ Machining has the expertise to handle.
